Who is winning the wearables battle?
With wearable technology become more popular and companies like Google, Garmin, Sony and Samsung jumping on the bandwagon to get products to the market. You may think that it is the big companies have cornered the market on wearable tech but that’s not the case there are still plenty of small and startups that have brought products to market. So who is leading the way in wearable technology?
Jawbone
Jawbone is the company behind the release of UP another fitness tracking wristband, they have another model called Jambox a wireless speaker. Jawbone isn’t new to wearables or wireless technology they were leading the way in Bluetooth headsets for years. Now it has moved into the wearables field, acquiring MassiveHealth and Visere back in 2013 giving them access to a new market.
Fitbit
Fitbit products are very similar to Jawbone and it is largely a product that tracks fitness activities. Fitbit and Fitbit 2 can monitor your steps, calories burned and the distance you have traveled. You can connect Fitbit with some of their other tools and mobile apps. You can even log into the Fitbit system and input the food you have eaten to record the calories.
Pebble
Pebble is another manufacturer of smart watches but it is more than a tracking device. You can connect it to your smartphone so you know who is calling or sending you text messages. The days of carrying your phone in your hand will be over. You can do almost anything with this you can do with a smartphone including downloading applications. Oculus VR
Oculus was one of the early players in the virtual reality market space and its new release has brought even more attention to the potential in VR. They are planning on branching out further by producing a VR helmet. Oculus will be a company to watch in the next few years to see where they go.
There are other players in the wearables space, you can’t overlook the Apple watch and there are plenty of people getting into the fitness tracker markets. VR is dominated by the big guys like Samsung, HTC and of course Sony as part of the gaming market. It will be interesting to see where this technology goes in the next couple of years.
